The plant develops a thick, fleshy rhizome that spreads shallowly over the soil and provides the starting mass for the finished distillate. The extraction is carried out with steam, as the purity of the aromatic profile depends directly on the gentle separation of the volatile substances in the aqueous medium. The soft aromatic strength comes from the scant volatile content that remains in the aqueous phase after the end of distillation. The scent rests on a herbal base with a warm and slightly sweet finish. The color ranges from pale yellow to greenish. The Geraniaceae family unites perennial herbaceous species in which part of the volatile compounds accumulates precisely in the underground mass rather than in the above-ground stalk.
